What causes the 10 Gee ballistic reentries?
This is the third ISS crew to endure this. Whats going on?
I've read the 10 Gee ballistic return is used by the disposable Progress variant, (Not sure if thats true) so is this somehow related to confused flight control procedures?
This is not a “Lets beat up the Russians” post.
This ISS crew might have to buy a years worth of new underwear, but Soyuz did return them alive.
Its a very robust, and successful spacecraft, no doubt about it.
But whats up?
An F-16 pilot can only pull 9.5 Gee for about 8 or 9 seconds tops.
I'm going to assume the Soyuz, 10 Gee reentry lasts a bit longer, so the crew will suffer Gee LOC, and black out.
Those last few seconds have to be terrifying, not knowing if you'll ever wake up again.
