Off Topic » in reply to April, 18, 1983. How quickly you Americans forget.

The actions which followed that belie the Reagan myth.

Reagan's true side came out. After it got hot in Lebanon he withdrew, wisely. Conservatives today would call that "surrendering", but their dictionary doesn't seem to match that of other folks.

Then Reagan started negotiating with Iran over the hostages, eventually supplying Iran with weapons to use against Iraq, who at the urging of the US had started a war with Iran. Some he sold, and diverted the money, illegally and unconstitutionally, to Central America.

Reagan's minion, Oliver North, was trafficing in cocaine to fund the favored after Congress cut off money. Not a proud moment for America or the military. I thought he should be shot for treason, and my military friends thought hanging would be much more appropriate. A firing squad is an honorable way for a military man to go.

For those who liked America when it was a nation of laws that debacle was a disappointment. America has sunk into a moral morass where the laws are only applicable if politically convenient. If they are not they are to be disregarded. That seems to be a more Conservative view, as evidenced by Reagan, Bush the First, and Bush the Second.
