Maybe because we expect the Republicans to do everything they can to discredit an articulate, charismatic, well-liked and successful Democratic President, and by extension, his wife. That's their job. In fact, that's one of the things I've always liked about the Clintons, the way the Republicans spit on the ground every time their name was mentioned. I figured they had to be doing something right to provoke that kind of reflexive reaction.

If Obama gets elected, or even nominated, I can't wait to see the minefield waiting for him, and to be honest, I don't think it will come from McCain. I still see him as a good guy, an Eisenhower or Nelson Rockefeller type Republican. But nasty habits die hard. The nation is now in uncharted political waters.
