...but not delusional. What better way to distance himself from that lunatic? And at the same time, the Rantin' Rev can continue his Jeremiads and scoop up all kinds of publicity. Everybody wins.
Meanwhile, Obama doesn't have to explain to his fans just why he's a member of that loony church; it might give street creds to a black Chicago politician but it doesn't ring true for a sophisticated, educated Presidenial candidate.
Cynical? Maybe, but do you really believe the Clintons are Baptists? Hell, I'm not even sure Jimmy Carter is a Baptist! I don't mean to imply Obama is an atheist or agnostic, but I find it very difficult to believe that church reflects his true religious views, if he has any in the first place. No American politician has ever declared himself a non-believer, or even a Deist (except Jefferson).
Then again, there are other possibilities. Maybe Obama just told the preacher to shut up, and he got pissed and decided to cause a little trouble in return. It gave Obama just the out he needed. Either way, it's going to work out just right for Barack. Slick, eh?
