My problem with letting the government "get the hell out of the way"...
is that nature abhors a vacuum. You remove all controls and the villains don't disappear. You just get the appearance of out-of-control villains.
If you fire the cops 'cause they're all crooked it doesn't mean the Mob is suddenly tamed by free market forces and honest competition. The Families will either ally themselves or they will fight amongst each other, or both, until only one is supreme. That's what "The Godfather" was all about.
