Of course it isn't ready yet. We're not ready to build nanobots yet either, but the technology to do so is quickly falling into place. The article you referred to is just an ice breaker. Basic experimentation to perfect the techniques needed in the coming decades.
IMO, I'm thinking it'll be after 2025 and before 2050 before this begins in ernest, but the rate of experimentation and research will continue to expand rapidly until then. To use the flight analogy again, we're living in the late 1880s. Lots of experimentaion and learning going on, but the big day is still a few decades away.
