Brain cancer is a difficult one, as you know. It's generally inoperable and can't be zapped much with radiation because too much collateral damage occurs. The only route is Chemo and strong Chemo makes even fit people very ill. But the cancer itself may be generating pressure and pain, affecting his control functions, so sometimes the Chemo route is preferable in terms of alleviating the side effects, even it has little chance of leading to full remission.
I remember how, two weeks into my own treatment, I began to feel healthier and happier. The pressure and pain had gone, and there was less worry. I was walking with a spring in my step again. But then the treatment hit hard and by about week 4 I was feeling pretty bad.
