That the attack was broadcast has greater historical significance than does the event itself. Such an event can appear far more important than it actually is when seen in historical context. But of course another aspect is that the event can be politically useful for those with an agenda to advance...and less useful if its relative insignificance becomes widely understood.

Different issues. Don't you see that? Drawing a parallell in the former case and a distinction in the latter is not incongruent. Religious extremism isn't necessarily tied to rascism. When a christian anti-abortionist murders a physician, what are the chances that the trigger gets pulled because of the doctor's race?

Also, while I do remember drawing that parallell between christian and muslim extremists, I don't recall saying they're "the same." They have radically different approaches to violence, for instance. Probably a lot of reasons for that. Huge differences in resources, for example. Christian violence is usually far better organized, financed, developed and marketed.

As far as white and black rascism being different animals...well, I suppose you could say that a whale and an ameoba are both living entities, and leave it at that. Doesn't seem to be a very robust approach to understanding, though.
