So now, after seeking their endorsements, McCain has had to repudiate Hagee AND Parsley- two preachers of hate that (what a surprise) have a large number of republican followers.
In 2000 McCain cald Falwell and his ilk "agents of intolerance" yet he has no problem hopping into bed with them, and even calling them a moral compass and spiritual guide.
That these two preachers preached hate was ALWAYS well known, and certainly McCain was aware of that fact but, lets face it, that sort of hatred is appealing to many republicans... not so appealing to democrats that were unlikely to vote for McCain anyways. So McCain embraced these 'agents of intolerance' in order to strengthen his support from the intolerant in his party.
It was only when the hatred and insanity of these preachers threatened to offend the more reasonable and moderate in his party that he repudiated them. It takes a LOT of hate to finally get to be too much for the right wing.
The right wing loons here will defend McCain, and say this is much ado about nothing- feel free to contrast that with their views on the Obama Wright controversy.
McCain: "I condemn remarks that are, in any way, viewed as anti-anything."
