For people who don't have insurance and can't afford to go to a doctor in the first place, those prices are exorbitant.

Up here in NC, they have clinics, but they are just as expensive for the first visit.
They give 10-20% discounts for cash as well.
Also there are relief plans where doctors and hospitals give their services to the needy for free, usually through an outreach or church program.

You certainly don't see that in Florida.
One third of the cost of insurance is due to BILLING.
