Earth "normal" or Mars-normal?
Remember that our eyes and brains are hard-wired for Earth-normal. Anything else looks odd.
"Wouldn't we notice?" - only if we KNEW what the "real" slopes were!
Chesley Bonestall's classic historic imaginings of the surface of the Moon had exaggerated relief of mountains (it was beleived correct at the time, due to lower gravity than earth). This added to their other-worldliness. We now know that the Moon IS other-worldly, but in different ways.
generally, slopes on Mars are much less than on Earth, due to limited tectonism and volcanism and extended (but slow) erosion. The greatest slopes are on young crater walls.
When I have the time, I will check the area and the slopes and think about the exaggeration.
