This talk refuses to go away. But on the surface it makes no sense, at least not from Hillary's point of view. She still has a solid career in the Senate to look forward to, the Vice Presidency is a dead end for her.
Think about it. If Obama has a catastrophic presidency and does not run in 2012, or is challenged from within his own party, she nor any other Democrat is likely to get elected. If Obama has a good or even half-assed first term, he'll run again. Either way, Hillary has no shot at the Preidency until 2016, and at 68 she will be way too old. Besides, no matter how good a President Obama turns out to be, America will be ready for a Republican by 2016. Americans like a periodic change.
From the point of view of her own ambition, she is better off pursuing a Senate career, or at the very least, accepting a seat on the Supreme Court. (Hell, why not offer one to Bill, too, if he doesn't want to follow Jimmy Carter and Al Gore into Senior Statesmanship.!) It's about time a good hosing was applied to that foul nest of Tories.
Vice President Clinton?
