"...said the tic-toc man..."

Many sculptures in the 18th century were done in "classical" style, portraying a contemporary figure in Republican Roman garb (but wearing a wig!). We have the same goofy conventions today, heroic poses of bureaucrats with their workshirt sleeves rolled up as if they were actually used to doing manual labor, cowboy gear (at least, Reagan knew how to ride a horse), and so on. The Obama walking on water pic is a hoot and it is certainly legit to show it, but I take no offense in it.

Now, if a group of psychological experts in Obama's employ had determined through surveys and social research that a certain segment of the population could be subliminally influenced into voting for Obama by portraying him as a Harlequin hunk, some Faux Fabio, and actually commissioned artists and media outlets to strategically place these images as an exercise in hidden persuasion, THEN I might take offense in it. Others, though, might just call it "marketing".

Or as one hippy friend of mine once remarked...

"Duds make the dude."
