First, there is the matter of a black candidate for president from a major party. We've come a long way, baby. (The other side of that is the prejudice to which the other side will and has appealed, and the fears which will be raised. It's starting to get dirty, and will make the Swift Boat folks look tame. Not America's finest there.)
And the other thing is California not finding a way to avoid gay marriages. I personally think there's no reason gay people shouldn't suffer the way we heterosexuals have, it's their constitutional right to be as miserable as the rest of us have been. And besides, if two people want to commit to each other, it's only right they can.
There is hope. Unless of course, the race-baiting is successful, and the Swift Boat folks are rewarded again.
