Could explain it this way. The rock in fact is Lodestone.
It was carved or moulded by an atist who then sold it to a crop circle afficienando who then took it out in the woods near Roswell and dropped it onto the ground, or buried it as a form of spiritual ritual.

We'll have to wait for them to interview the man who found it and see if he is allowing any labs to test the chemical make up of the stone.

Or, it could be another case like the Grassdorf circles in Germany in 1991 where art is imitating...well.....crop <circles>?
