Off Topic » in reply to India unveils it's new 54 mpg car Tato Nano for $2,500

Already saw one.

In a wealthy enclave driven by someone clearly looking for the "cache" of being unique. 1/2 of my front hood was larger than the whole car. You have to have failed (or never taken) physics to drive such a vehicle in real US metro areas.

Mission accomplished for the young twenty-ish driver, since folks were staring at how small the car was. However, the driver would be distressed if he knew what some of the other drivers were thinking about his IQ.

Kids with subwoofers desperately seek affirmation of their existence as well. Driving the instrument of your demise is probably even less intelligent than making yourself partially deaf by age 21.

But that's just me being a blasphemer against the nation's obvious obligation to balance the population boom with unsafe medicines, cars and products made in China.

Unsafe is Green! Unsafe is "socially responsible!" Unsafe small cars with higher gas mileage are "morally superior" to safe big "evil" cars!

And just like the celebrities with their electric cars and hybrids - the first owners buy such because it's all about getting a little bit more attention or to feel "superior" to others.

The same reason why folks by Rolls-Royces or Rolexes.

The emotional mechanism at work is exactly the same for both.
