Captain Cook?

I knew Captain Cook. He was a friend of mine. And this Yeti Hustler is no Captain Cook.

"ANSWER: Wait for the last word and the DNA results."

The very way you phrase that statement gives the Yetiman's claim a legitimacy it does not possess. It implies that it is either right or wrong, so due to the dichotomous way the question is posed and the way the English languages handles comparisons, it further implies that he has a 50% chance of being right. Consequently, any alleged refusal to consider his evidence or skepticism about its veracity is prima facie evidence of the closed-mindedness of his critics.

Wrong, this is a typical anomalist trick. We are under no obligation to give him any benefit of a doubt, he is the one who has chosen to make an outrageous assertion in an unorthodox manner; extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. The burden of proof is on this guy, not on his critics. You don't stop a murder trial and conduct an exorcism just because the defendant says the Devil made him do it.

If he is going to produce DNA results how do we know they are any more legit than his phony expert witness? Is he going to hand us a document and we are to conclude it it a bona fide "DNA test report"? No doubt he will produce a distinguished man in a white lab coat as his medical expert. And all the while he can't even provide us with a decent photograph, much less a whole album full, of the critter. Film is cheap.

If there is indeed a Yeti as he describes, why didn't he haul the evidence to a University biology department or a local TV station where there would have been immediate examination and documentation by people known to the community to be of unimpeachable authority, out of his control and under authoritative handling which ensured he was not manipulating us. I can guarantee you that if there was a real Yeti in that freezer and a real biologist at a real university had the opportunity to exam it without interference, this would already be accepted proof.

And anomalist boosters make a further unwarranted obfuscation when they imply that a healthy skepticism about a report is a denial of the possiblity that the object reported cannot exist. I personally cannot claim with complete confidence that there is no such thing as a Yeti. No one can say that. However, I certainly can claim that the way this fraud is being perpetrated is usiing the same media and verbal tricks as other anomalists routinely use, and that their fans consistently swallow as gospel.

They make an announcement but give you no alternative information source, no unimpeachable witnesses, no access to independent observers, not one professional with a reputation who can closely and independently examine the evidence, and no uninterested third party who can arrange these tests and verifications. All we get is the same whole harangue about how us scientists are so closed minded and stuck in our orthodoxy that we are incapable of thinking out of the box.

And don't you DARE tell me I didn't know Captain Cook. You have no idea how old I am.
