...unless they are performed by a reputable lab, published in a legitimate journal and supported by corroborating evidence. Any first-year molecular bio/cellular genetics student could probably fake a convincing DNA test report that would pass muster. And any sensational anomalist can always claim that such a report exists and quote extensively from the non-existent "experts" who supposedly wrote it.
You will note I am definitely NOT implying that Yeti is a scientific impossibility; unknown macrofauna are occasionaly discovered in remote areas, and this violates no established law of physics. Yetis may be highly unlikely, for a variety of reasons, but they are certainly not impossible.
However, a legitimate specimen could easily be thrown on ice and taken somewhere for public inspection and scientific investigation, and it would certainly establish the reputation and career of whoever discovered and/or described it. There would be no incentive to "cover it up" as is alleged with UFOs, Martian Faces, etc. On the contrary, it would make the discoverers very wealthy; no one would have a motive to keep it a secret or confine the news to paranormal media outlets.
I have a feeling we'll be hearing about this case for years, but it will never be from someone who can be believed. The "proof" will be confined to paranormal websites and obscure cryptozoological publications and other venues where it will be always conveniently impossible for the skeptical to follow up on it.
If there is a Yeti (or Bigfoot, or Nessie, or Chupacabra) someone will eventually shoot or capture it and take the specimen to some real university which will run tests, take photographs, publish the results and share tissue samples with other instituions for corroboration. And they'll all be on the cover of Newsweek.
