I have worried over the historical parallels before the recent Georgia business. Nothing neocon about it.

Germany was defeated in WWI, lost territory and went through extremely difficult economic times. Russia was defeated in the Cold War, lost territory and went through extremely difficult times. Hitler and Putin were/are nationalistic leaders who eliminated democratic opposition and imposed authoritarian rule. Now Putin is trying similar border changing tactics.

I don't think Putin is a genocidal lunatic, but he fits the rest of the profile.
