In fact, in the 70s, the propagandists of the nuclear industry gleefully pointed out that the exposure to radiation of the citizenry from reactor operations was actually less than the exposure from Po210 in cigarette tobacco. I remember reading this in a nuke industry public relations training pamphlet in 1971.
