Pungent discussion of recent 'ID" arguments
AC Grayling's repartee is breezy and entertainingly concise
and yet the discussion is basically about intellectual offenses given and taken. Offstage are the authentic existential needs of human beings, where the idea of a "church" , a holy community, arose. A quote from Martin Buber captures a fragment of this dimension of human life: "God is the Being that is directly, most nearly, and lastingly over against us, that may properly only be addressed, not expressed." (from 'I And Thou'). It is important to preserve the truth of the sacred, and to not besmirch it, while conducting the necessary work of exposing fatuous, vicious, or absurd doctrines.
