Make you wonder, doesn't it?

My brother once said to me he thought most western societies were, at any given time, three meals away from revolution. An interesting opinion about just how fragile our societies really might be.

I wonder how many people realize just how true that statement is?

At some point, when food gets scarce or too expensive for whatever reason, normally docile people lose it. Then is when the mobs are in the streets and cities burn. Frankly I fear that time will come to this country sooner or later. Not one immense event will bring it on. It will be an accumulation of seemingly unrelated events. A drought here, flood there, energy prices so high the Van Allen belts expand, economic collapse.

The last is currently a very real possiblity. Commercial credit has virtually dried up. Without short-term credit a lot of companies can't operate efficiently. In time they are forced to lay-off employees. Their suppliers, having lost that account lay-off some of theirs. Consumer oreinted business income drops. They lay-off or shut down. It's the tired old phrase, 'Dimino effect'. At some point everything falls apart.

The Bail-Out makes me grit my teeth and cuss. The fact that it's an absolute necessity makes it that much harder to keep my cool. Like many Americans, I beleive those idiots who were running the Financial Giants should suffer the same fate as the lowest mail-room clerk. And give back their exorbitant bonuses and salaries. Doubt it will happen, but one can hope.
