No one is saying just because you're Muslim you can't be a terrorist. All we're saying is that just because you're Muslim you don't have to be a terrorist.

Do we condemn all Christians as terrorists because some of them blow up abortion clinics, black churches, and Federal buildings? Do we call Jews terrorists because Menachem Begin and his Stern Gang blew up the King David Hotel in 1947 when it was a billet for British Officers? Are all Germans Nazis? Did all American GIs have their own My Lais, their own Abu Ghraibs? Their own Andersonvilles?

Why are even we having this conversation? The man's right. It just plays into Trump's hands. The danger is that dull, ignorant people can be fired up by this oh-so-easy formula. Hate is so much easier than thought. Maybe some religions or nationalities tend to be more violent or brutal than others. But once you start blaming the category of people as just being naturally violent, and worthy of pre-emptive violence, then we are (as trite as this sounds) just like them. And yes, they DO win.
