There's a script by writer A, who sells it to producer 1. Producer 1 hires writer B, who punches it up. Producer 1 sells a 20% interest to Producer 2, who has connections with Producer C who hires three writers to re-write the script in order to pitch it to a well known director. If he signs on then they can get big name stars to be in the flick. But of course the well known director wants re-writes.....
The more names, the more hands it has passed through.
