Some people don't think in terms of puns, in fact they find puns annoying....
The back of my mind has a little section devoted to constantly looking for possible puns.... no matter how inappropriate.
Very often I have made a pun, had a person look at me wondering why I used that odd turn of phrase, and then two days later had them come back and say they just 'got it'.....
I apologize for Puntificating on this topic...
We should try to not view these poor souls as inferior, they are merely disabled, crippled by a broken humorous... we need to keep an opun mind towards these sad people, it is unfair to make those marooned at wit's end the butt of our jokes....
