You won't like what happens to people, and how they subsequently behave.
You won't like the civil unrest, the collapse of neighborhoods, the theft and panhandling. Demagogues will like it, though.
The country is held together by a social contract. The Founders recognized this as enlightened self-interest. Your fellow citizens' lives affect yours. If you only look out for yourself, no one else will care about looking out for you.
