It truly is. On anything substantive they cannot admit being wrong.
Imagine a childhood where being right was paramount. You became a semi-nerd. With your siblings and friends if you were wrong about anything you became a subject of ridicule. People laugh and make fun of and finally shun you. You felt bad, stupid, flawed and worthless. To be wrong is to be a non-entity, abandoned. Your entire self-worth is predicated upon being right.
And you know you're a good guy, so you must be right.
Bush has never admitted he was wrong, nor Cheney, Rice, Rumsfeld nor any others. The historical record as revealed by participants who have written it up shows they were wrong over and over, and yet there is nothing but denial and coverup.
Because of a fundamental fear. It's common.
Trust me on this one. If I want to know about lasers I'd have to ask someone like you. This one is my area.

Constitutional incapable of admitting they are wrong. It's built-in.
