First off, the cases of ACORN voter fraud have been due to ACORN's stupid practice of paying workers for the number of names they get- a practice that resulted in workers falsifying lists- not in order to influence elections, but in order to recieve more money. In many cases the offenders were turned in by ACORN itself.

State authorities on Tuesday raided an organization that registers low-income people to vote, alleging that its canvassers falsified forms with bogus names, fake addresses or famous personalities.

The secretary of state’s office launched an investigation after noticing that names did not match addresses and that most members of the Dallas Cowboys appeared to be registering in Nevada to vote in November’s general election.

"Some of these (forms) were facially fraudulent; we basically had the starting lineup for the Dallas Cowboys," Secretary of State Ross Miller said. "Tony Romo is not registered to vote in Nevada. Anyone trying to pose as Terrell Owens won’t be able to cast a ballot."

Registration fraud typically stems from workers striving to meet their daily quota of submitted voter forms, Miller said.

Most organizations require their workers to sign up 20 voters a day. Fraudulent forms start filtering in when workers struggle to meet their quota and either fill in bogus names or accept documents with names that are clearly falsified, Miller said.

In a statement released by ACORN on Tuesday, Interim Chief Organizer Bertha Lewis said the group based in Clark County routinely flagged suspect applications and notified the Clark County Election Department. The group provided state and county officials with the names of individuals who submitted the falsified registration forms.

"Election officials routinely ignored this information and failed to act," Lewis said. "ACORN pleaded with them to take our concerns about fraudulent applications seriously."

Secondly, ACORN was specifically TARGETED by this administration... just this month the US Department of Justice Inspector General found that former U.S. Attorney David Iglesias was wrongfully fired by Attorney General Alberto Gonzalez after Iglesias declined to indict over alleged voter fraud at an ACORN affiliate in New Mexico, citing insufficient evidence.
ACORN HAS been effective at registering legitimate voters in poor urban areas- something that will only hurt republicans- instead of dealing with WHY those people dont vote republican, the republicans choose to try to silence them, using claims of voter fraud. Meanwhile republicans are doing everything they can to keep people away from the polls- from mis-information campaigns (police will be picking up anyone at the polling location that has unpaid parking tickets) to legislation aimed at excluding poor, minority and elderly.
The false registrations submitted by ACORN workers should be followed up on and punishment given where there is evidence of a crime....

ACORN, by its very nature the places it operates, is going to register far more democrats than republicans- tough- but that isnt a crime, you are free to go and try and register as many wall street CEOs as you want to even things up...
