"I find it it unacceptable that at times you complain that not enough money is spent on your monomaniacal chicken-little obsession"
Woaa. I guess you need to come up to speed. 95% of the people living in North America died at 10,900 BCE from impact. Further, the Congress of th4 United States, Representatives and Senators, including Senators McCain and Obama, spefically told NASA Administrator Griffin to make dealing with this hazard a priority, and he ignored their explicit instructions.
Now if you want to insult those Represntatives and Senators by calling them chicken little obsessives, that is your perogative.
"and then you take NASA and MESSENGER to task for not spending money on analytical science."
NASA does not spend enough money determining the accretion rates, and planetary probes need to be designed to obtain that data, and money needs to be spent on that datas analysis, and the data no allowed to rot.
"Space science is a broad field and will NOT be best pursued by pushing all the funds down a single narrow alley, be it Man-in-space, Man-on-the-Moon, Mars, NEO's, comets, or whatever."
Which is exactly the problem: the money should be focused on the accretion problem right now. Mars presents no immediate hazard to us, except for possible back contamination committed by some idiots.
"The MESSENGER team and other mainstream space scientists will, in ue course, after proper scientific review write formal scientific papers about the impact history of Mercury and its implications for the solar system as a whole and our earth in particular.
WHEN?
"this process takes time, cannot be rushed, and should not idly be criticised.
The most important attribute of a planetary scientist is patience. Please find some..."
My patience has done gotten all used up.
