I give Reagan credit for being tough with the Soviets (I readily and proudly admit to being on the left but I hate communists) but he made a big mistake in Lebanon, and his Latin American policy was an abomination (basically arming and supporting right-wing military dictatorships so that they could massacre the people in their countries...)

Obama was absolutely right and showed excellent judgement in opposing the Iraq war, and the surge has, at great cost, only temporarily given a facade of normalcy to what remains one of the most dangerous countries in the world. It has NOT worked. Not yet. Just wait and see what happens after our troops pack up and leave, as some day they must. Only one year after that, if Iraq is still in one piece, more or less, with anything resembling a stable, functioning government, could you say that the surge indeed "worked".
