Reagan could make a good speech. After that he was hollow. He negotiated with terrorists, which isn't bad unless you say you'll never do it, he funded state-sponsored terrorism in Central America, and he was dumb as a post.
One of the confusing things of that era is that Conservatives give him credit for the collapse of the Soviet Union. Which is nonsense.
If communism can't work, well it will fail. And did. Would have collapsed if the world were laughing it's ass off at Palin as President, or Mickey Mouse, who is arguably a bit smarter and more alert than Reagan.
What is puzzling is that Conservatives made a hero out of Oliver North, when he should have been shot. As well as Reagan, who, after all, took an oath to uphold the Constitution. And Poindexter who took an oath also only to violate it grievously, was rehabilitated and re-surfaced under Bush the Second.
However, one must not expect the same morality of Conservatives as they expect of others. They, after all, are protecting the Constitution.
Heh, heh.

Reagan managed to seem tough while commiting treason, negotiating with terrorists.
