Any political writing Yeats did he did in opposition to a great power occupying another, smaller nation. I can think of a contemporary case of that happening right now. Can you?
Yeats's references are all to the unraveling of civilization, which he saw happening in the 20th century. He never concerned himself with such a mundane topic as economics.
If Obama wins, and he can even stop, let alone reverse, the slide into the economic abyss, he will get credit for that. If he can inspire people to pull together and stop being so hateful to each other, he'll get a lot of credit for that. He knows what he's asking for. His timing is a little premature, but sometimes you have to jump when you're ready rather than waiting for the conditions to be perfect.
Tell me, would you like McCain to win so he can be Hoover for four years (or for 2 years, followed on by President Palin and her Cabinet of former high school classmates), after which a Democrat can step into the FDR role later on when the nation itself is on the verge of collapse?

Yeats is sublime. Your reference is ridiculous.
