How are the doctors paid in Canada?

In Michael Moore's movie "Sicko" he really only touched on France where physicians were paid an annual salary. That seems logical as long as the salary was based on specialty, experience, and schooling.

My own foray into working with the health claim payment system is that it's hopelessly broken and must be hugely simplified to drop costs dramatically. Paying a doctor based on procedure (using impossibly complicated formulas) is ridiculous and requires a gigantic workforce to manipulate it.

p.s. Now, I also believe that a nationalized system should still allow people to get their own private insurance and those industries can contract with doctors however they see fit. Of course if those physicians want to utilize the nationalized health care centers for their practice, they'd have to rent out the facilities and equipment. They're free of course to build their own.
