Try it this way:
It's glaringly obvious what "pull your pants up" means when a gang member says it. It doesn't mean literally, "pull your pants up." It means to stop being an illiterate criminal thug and grow up.
What Lee meant, and I got it right away, is that a gang member, or any other individual, shouldn't need the goddamn President to finally point out that growing up is necessary.
