At age 14 I inadvertently applied 110VAC directly to my head through earphones while holding a ground wire. Made a mistake on a power line antenna.
But I did not ruin an inverter trying to run it in reverse. The schematic reveals a device much more complex than a simple transformer.
However, were I able to make a somewhat smaller version of whatever that was on youtube I'd be tempted. Even though the pipe bombs I made as a kid were truly impressive. How one finds a clip such as that, even one within an entire genre, is beyond me.
