"I love the game playing with irrelevant timelines.
It's cooler today than yesterday, so warming must be a crock."
I take then that you now accept it's cooler.
Frankly I didn't think you would ever admit it.
As I said before, we are in long period of warming- thousands of years of warming.
Current temperatures are not warmer than during some of these periods within this long period of warming.
And I expect that it will get warmer in the future.
The current cooling, I believe, has a small amount to do with the lack of sun spot activity, but mostly I think it's cyclic.
But if we continue with low activity of Sun, this could have a significant cooling affect, but there some hopeful signs that the Sun's activity will increase.
I believe the warming of the 20th Century is mostly due to recovery from a cooler period, called the Little Ice Age, which was characterized by centuries of no or little sun spot activity. There were glaciers which grew in this period, which still exist today- so in that sense, we have yet to recover from that period.
But as I said before I have no way of predicting the Sun, though in terms of odds, probably most of the time during the last few thousand years, lacks long periods of low sun activity.
Therefore it is likely that in the future, we will have periods of time with moderate to high sun activity, and if this is the case, we continue the long term warming period and we will return to warming equal, and perhaps warmer than warmer periods which we had thousands of years ago.
Though it's unlikely we will ever [within thousands of years- or until the next ice age] reach the warmer temperatures which were common on Earth +5 million years ago [a period which predate any ice core record [less than million years ago there is no glacier ice which exist today- which was cooler period than +5 million years ago.
Since it has happened in the past [about 800,000 years ago, it's possible that after thousands of years of continuing our current warming- and lacking any more little ice ages within this time period- we could see most of the remaining glacier ice melt.
It's close to impossible that this could occur within a century, and extremely unlikely this could occur within the next two hundred years. And I don't believe it's probable in the next 1000 years or 2000 years.
And I don't think we should have governmental policy related to what "will" or could happen in the next 50 years- not to mention centuries in the future. 20 years into the future is probably about the upper limit of what is reasonable. And trillions of dollars for + 20 years into the future is nutty- and I don't recommend it in regards to space exploration, either. Though compared to Al Gore crazy, spending huge sums for space exploration seems much saner.
