ST & TNG were about good storylines and character interaction. The FX & hardware were backdrops.

I was in England during ST's original run and didn't get to see it until about a year after I came home. I'd watch it late in the afternoon and very soon knew all the storylines and could practically say the lines along with the actors. I had favorite episodes and actors and some that I didn't like very much. I always disliked the episode about the creature who took the human shape of Nancy Crater and sucked the salt out of people. My two favorites are the Trouble with Tribbles and City on the Edge of Forever. Storyline and character interaction.
