Agree on Voyager

It felt like the original series in regards to the starship crew doing some
actual exploring of strange new worlds and new life forms and
commenting on social issues. Though they did take the ST universe's
most interesting and formidable foe, the Borg, and water them down
with all their appearances and the fact that while entire civilizations
could not bring them down, one lost starship routinely bested them
every time. Even Picard needed Q's help to get out of his first
encounter with them during the TNG era.

I warmed up to Deep Space Nine after a while, if for no other reason
than they took risks with story ideas, in large part because they were
usually looked upon as the "lesser" series in the ST franchise. As a
result, we got some funny episodes like the one where the DS9 officers
played a baseball game against a team of Vulcans, who were completely
baffled by the illogic of the DS9 team celebrating their utter defeat at
the hands of the far superior guys with the pointy ears. And the one
where the three main Ferengi characters go through a time warp and
end up becoming the aliens who started the whole Roswell incident.

But Enterprise... nope, just could not get into it or the characters.
Though I did kinda like the Mirror Universe episode, which took place
entirely in that universe, which was novel.

That is one thing ST will need to do in the future, once they get past
recreating their past: Try things outside the ST box. Then again,
this may also make it no longer Star Trek. Perhaps it means the series
has indeed run its course, although there is nothing wrong with it
evolving, either, so long as it keeps that foundation of exploring new
worlds and new life forms with a little social commentary thrown in for
good measure.

Goodness knows there are a lot of great SF stories that have yet to
be presented properly on the small and large screen, many for the
first time.
