Been reading more than a few folks who make comments such as the below with some justification.
"More than half of the people named so far to Obama's transition or staff posts have ties to former President Bill Clinton's administration. The Clinton-heavy team has caused some Republicans to question Obama's call for change."
A couple of thoughts I have are:
1. He's drawing people from Clinton's administration. The call for "change" was mostly, not completely, but mostly directed at the way Bush & Cheney did business. And so far, to my knowledge, only one Bushie has received serious consideration, Gates at DoD. Clinton had an administration with many good people which outperformed him, crippled as he was.
2. I believe Obama is trying to avoid the problems Carter had when he swept in with a very new, inexperienced cast, also crying "change". While very bright and capable, those folks didn't know how the system worked to get something done. The learned, but too late.
It seems to me that Obama's not threatened by having people around who are more knowledgeable than he. It looks as if his expertise will be to supply the goals, and his administration will be charged with what they may know best, getting it done.
Too many previous administrations of both parties had the principals micro-managing that which should be delegated to experts. The big ones in my mind are Johnson and the Vietnam War, and Cheney and intelligence on Iraq.
Arf
Obama's appointments to date v. "change".
