He says the Church has no special knowledge regarding alien life,
especially any intelligent ones. They are open to the concept and
have been for a long time, but there is no official word on the matter,
other than the idea that since God can do anything He wants, He
can make more than one planet with life.
A little late for Bruno and Galileo, but better late than never and
certainly more open-minded that some other Christian groups, who
maintain that God sent His Only Son to fix the natives on one planet
just once and that's it - until He comes back to save the "chosen"
folk and kick butt on the rest.
When and if alien life is revealed, I don't think it will be by the Church
or any other religious group, but, hey, ya never know.
Just hope there aren't any ETI on a missionary bent to "save" the
unwashed of this galaxy.
