I would belive that Nebula contain gas so sound can be carried by shock waves if the shock wave is strong enough the gas would travel some distantance (now this is only a guess on my part so no shoting me down).

if the above is true then i go further to possibly say if a ship exploded there be no sound unless the gas onboard is traveling in your direction?

Here another question If blood is only red with oxigen would it still be red in space?
