The ideological redoubt is always the last line of defense, after every other ring in the multilayered fortification has been challenged. It's the only one that can never be dismissed by facts.
1) There is no global warming
2) There is, but it's natural
3) It's not natural, but it's not a big deal
4) It is a big deal, but there is nothing we can do about it
5) We can do something about it, but we don't know what or how much...
6) It's all just a conspiracy to steal our goods.
I wish someone would tell me where I can sign up and benefit from this conspiracy, and all the loot that will be extorted from our poor, victimized polluting community. I'd love to get a piece of that action.
Of course, no one could possibly imagine that opponents to mitigating measures to AGW could possibly be motivated to obstruct any policy which might possibly cause them any inconvenience, or money.
