Questioning the wisdom of measures to control global warming is valid. But AGW critics, yourself included, are mounting spirited foot-dragging on all the defensive perimeters. it's no wonder you might be mistaken as simply wanting to make the problem be ignored, not just attacking specific bad policy.
As far as the carbon credits idea is concerned, you may be surprised to know I am totally opposed to it. I think its just an attempt to get the business community to sign off on it by providing them with a new market they can manipulate and exploit. Personally, I favor direct control, taxation and regulation to restrict fossil fuel consumption and force conservation. The government does not profit and the society gets it back by buying less foreign energy and reducing the balance of trade.
This may appear Draconian to you, but it would have been a lot less painless if we had started when the problem was first identified forty years ago. As I recall, the business community, particularly Detroit and Big Oil, fought it tooth and nail back then, too. They have no one to blame but themselves.
