This pisses me off. It's a slap in the face of big segments of Obama's constituency in order to kiss the asses of those who do not deserve the respect of decent people. A completely insensitive act, which, I believe, will create a firestorm of controversy which could easily have been avoided.
"Evangelical megachurch pastor Rick Warren, author of The Purpose-Driven Life, will deliver the invocation at Barack Obama's inauguration next month, the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies announced today."
I've thought a lot of what he's done is genius. Although many of his appointments have real policy meanings and are definitely off the message which got him elected, they can be rationalized. Individually they make sense. Collectively, the unending appointments of political adversaries has become a concern.
And now this symbolic apology for Rev. Wright, while ultimately meaningless, is an expression of contempt for many, many people. All of them his supporters, or at least at one time. It will be interesting to see how he weathers the firestorm this creates.
Or maybe I'm the only one who is beginning to question his judgment.
