Whose resolutions were used as an excuse to invade Iraq? Whose inspectors said Iraq didn't have nukes? Who called that one better than Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Rice, et al? If the US had listened to the UN instead of Chalabi a lot of innocent people would be alive, wouldn't they. And Saddam would have been running Iraq instead of Bush.
The UN is reasonably effective, not perfect by any means but an attempt by the nations of the world to learn to work together.
It is not a tool of the US, and therefore Conservatives don't like it. Imagine, there are some countries which need to limit their populations, and aren't interested in Bush and abstinence. And Conservatives will cut off the contributions for that.
Next, what better ideas are out there? I understand in a black-and-white world nothing which isn't perfect in the eyes of a conservative is worth anything at all. So what better ideas do you have?
Hint: US imperialism is not a better idea.
