I'm kind of relieved, actually. The toad was the last of the children's cage pets that I got stuck with when they lost interest or left for college. There were two toads for many years, and I had to hand-feed them because if I just let crickets go in there they would either fall in and drown or one toad would eat all of them.
After a few years of hand-feeding, both toads became completely useless at hunting, and would need to snap at the patiently-held cricket five or six times before managing to grab it.
