Last night I was looking at Venus in my telescope. My daughter was helping me.
I was telling her that as Venus gets closer to the Earth, it gets bigger and brighter, even thou more and more of its night side is facing us.
I wonder what the view would be from Venus, as the planet orbits between the Earth and sun?
Imagine if you could fly above Venus cloud tops, where the atmosphere is around 1 bar and the temperatures are tolerable, on the day side you would see blue sky. As you flew towards the night side, you would see a spectacular sunset.
The night side would not be totally dark. Lightning would flash below. Above would be Earth glowing brightly. At its closest to Venus, Earth would glow at almost a -7 magnitude (about 6 times brighter than Venus ever gets in our skies). This is about half the magnitude of the full Moon. This glow would dimly light the clouds below.
If you had really good eyesight, you might be able to see the disk of Earth and see the Moon.
