trees are better than current solar technology for cooling
So I've been told comparing energy saved by cooling v. electricity generated to run AC systems.
Of course that's not a complete answer - solar helps for heating and can be installed on inclined roofs, trees/green roofs provide esthetic and open space benefits and can help reduce and clean runoff, maybe a slight help against urban air pollution. Solar tech is improving.
