Bras and Breast Cancer - more info

For those who may be interested, here's a little more info on the purported link between tight bras (or bra-wearing of any kind) and breast cancer.

The main reason why tight bras are bad for breast health is because they restrict the lymph flow in your breasts. There are numerous lymph pathways and lymph nodes in the armpits, under the breasts, and in between the breasts. Normally the lymph fluid washes out waste materials and other toxins away from the breasts, but bras (and especially push-up bras) inhibit this action, so toxins can start to accumulate in the breast, and that can help cancer to develop. In other words, bras inhibit the way our bodies normally cleanse themselves and get rid of cancer cells and toxins like PCBs, DDT, dioxin, benzene and other carsinogenic (sic) chemicals that cling to the body's fatty tissues like breast. How Bras are Linked to breast Cancer from the Female Intelligence Agency website.

However, the American Cancer Society dismisses any link between bras and breast cancer:

There are no scientifically valid studies that show wearing bras of any type causes breast cancer.

[...]

Furthermore, the alleged mechanism suggested in the book and in chain e-mails (blocked lymphatic vessels causing toxins to accumulate) is inconsistent with scientific concepts of breast physiology and pathology.

The book by Singer and Grismaijer ( Dressed to Kill, Avery Press, 1995) contained references to Singer's test on Fijian women:

Singer compared women in Fiji, half of whom wear bras, half of whom go without. Singer found the bra-wearers get breast cancer at the same rate US women do. But, the Fijian women who don't wear bras have almost no incidence of breast cancer. Both groups share the same living environment and diet.

Take your pick, dogma or real-world data. In my opinion, the medical industry focuses too much attention on (a pound of) cures (as a result of testing and medical intervention), and not enough on (an ounce of) prevention.

In this case, the ounce of prevention is burning your bra. If your tits flop, so what?

It can't be worse than cancer!
