After reading this thread, it would be a shocker if WE would be 'the highly technical ones' to find life, intelligent or not, outside our world.

On a sentient universal level, we may be it or not, but will never know until we try and Lord knows Kepler (and it's like) are long overdue. I've been reading on this Kepler mission for about ten years now and with ALL it's set backs, it's better late than never. Sad though.
